DESIGNER I DO'S
You know the scenario: a little girl dreaming of that dreamy day filled with good tidings, love and butterflies, a handsome Prince Charming... and that big, beautiful, white wedding gown. We ladies are all too familiar with this daydream that starts in our childhood and carries over to our adult lives. Details of the dream scenario change over time, but if there is a particular element that we really linger on, it's what we have on during The Big Day. Prince Charming might be a bit difficult to pin down, after all, but our wedding gown? That we have under control.
Whether the wedding gown of your dreams epitomizes every little princess's dream, or if it has matured to something sleeker and less poufy, we have your styles covered with this spread of Filipino designers who can make every wish come true. From the industry vanguards who have been doing it for years to young guns who are determined to make you feel and look your best as you say your vows, we have a 25-strong selection of the country's bridal best. Here's hoping you find your match!
Here they all are, in alphabetical order:
The Lowdown: If you're from Manila and don't mind flying to the Queen City of the South to consult and fit with this Cebu-based couturier, by all means, do so. His highly coveted gowns have been worn by many ladies who are tremendously discerning when it comes to craftsmanship and quality. Known best for his laser-cutting and pleatwork, his bridal gowns pack in a lot of drama and artistry that make them, truly, works of art on their own.
Starting price: P150,000. Cary usually does wedding gowns only, but if he and the bride can agree on a price, he will be more than happy to do entourage dresses, too.

The Lowdown: Long been a favorite of the Manila's "It" girls for her sexy party dresses that hug and showcase the body like a dream, Charina Sarte has also been a favorite of brides for her no-fuss jersey bridal dresses that are perfect for destination weddings. Jersey is a low-maintenance fabric that travels well, and is immensely flattering when cut and draped well, which this designer obviously does. A plus of having Charina aboard your bridal boat? She can also do your bridesmaids' dresses, which, considering Charina's sexy aesthetic, they can wear again and again to any dressy event even after the wedding.

The Lowdown: Czarina Villa is a protegé of fashion design veteran Frederick Peralta, from whom she absorbed a luscious, glamorous style and a sharp eye for detail. She has melded what she learned from her apprenticeship with him and from her fashion design education at La Salle College International with a young, slightly edgy, and contemporary sensibility tempered with a flair for femininity. As all dedicated fashion designers, she is very devoted to her clients. She says, "The client has to be happy. To do that, it is imperative to listen to what she wants and needs."
Starting price: P60,000.
