DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: CAMILLE CO

Preview emerging designer Camille Co is the pretty face behind the young retail and made-to-order clothing line Coexist. She has been in the Philippine fashion industry for only a short time but has already managed to capture the attention of its fashionable authorities through her stylish creations geared towards Manila's chic young stylistas.

She describes her design philosophy as "always true to the female body," "subtle but noticeable," "simple but modern," and "striking but never over the top." The garments in her latest collection embody all these qualities, and provide quite the selection of outfits for all sorts of occasions this coming holiday season.

PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOUR INSPIRATION FOR THE COLLECTION.

I didn’t really have to look far for my inspiration. Basically, all I wanted was to make pieces that the Coexist woman would need for the season. Since the –ber months are here, I had to consider all the events and parties she has lined up, so I made sure we have pieces for corporate events, weddings, and other parties. Our Coexist women are busy ladies who know how to mix and balance work with play, always managing to look sexy yet sophisticated.

WHAT MATERIALS DID YOU USE?

Mostly fabrics that are either sheer or have sheen, so we used the likes of taffeta, silk, satin and chiffon. Also, we used jerseys in jewel tones.

WHAT ARE ITS SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES TO YOUR PAST COLLECTIONS?

Of course we always try our best to stick to our design philosophy: feminine, urbane and subtle but always striking and noticeable. I think the only difference between this collection and our previous ones is that we have more pieces for our more mature customers.

WHO DO YOU ENVISION WEARING THESE PARTICULAR PIECES?

Someone like Anne Curtis, someone who exudes youth but with sophistication.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO TELL US A LITTLE SOMETHING ABOUT ITEMS THAT ARE EXTRA SPECIAL, IF ANY.

The velvet jersey dress is definitely special. The cut is really simple but the textured fabric and small details here and there make it so rich and luxurious looking. Another favorite of  mine is the red chiffon dress with mesh detail. Again, the cut is so simple but with such a bold color and intricate details, it exudes subtle sexiness and confidence.

WHAT CAN WE LOOK FORWARD TO FOR YOUR NEXT COLLECTION?

I’m planning to make a couture holiday collection, so naturally, it’ll be really different from our RTW collection and far more glamorous. Expect to see more intricate details and rich colors. Also, I’m currently drawing up a few pieces for a collection inspired by body art.
