Fashion becomes all the more fun when it involves a good cause. Jewelry designer Candy Dizon (of Jul B. Dizon Jewellery) spearheaded the recently held Green Couture fashion show at the Manila Peninsula in collaboration with Manila Waldorf School to raise funds for the latter's faculty training and development program, and, naturally, to support environmental awareness and responsibility.

Eleven of Manila's top fashion designers—Ivar Aseron, Patrice Ramos-Diaz, Rajo Laurel, Jojie Lloren, Dennis Lustico, Tippi Ocampo, Puey Quiñones, James Reyes, Michi Calica-Sotto, Karen Mijares, and Kate Torralba—created dresses and gowns out of recyclable materials such as bubble wrap, plastic bags, straws, tin bottle caps, and rice and flour sacks. The results were show-stopping, to say the least. Some of the designer sent us their sketches before the show, and it was truly a captivating experience to see their ideas come to life! (Click on the following pages to see their sketches.)

  • Yes, the materials were all collected by the Waldorf students/parents. They are mostly used except for the black garbage bags. :)

  • i say it really pays to be well-connected ... puey quinones is back very shortly after that recent tragic event. don't get me wrong, i'm all for giving second chances in such a case, but how i hope that the industry could be as forgiving to lesser known talents (and how i pray that puey TRULY learned from it). anyway, are those materials actually used ones? coz if they were purchased fresh from the supermarket, would they not have had created more junk from the left-overs (of, say, a shower curtain which didn't make it into the pattern)? just wondering.
