MICHAEL CINCO MENSWEAR
This quarter seems to be a great time for fashion-savvy guys. Men's Week debuted just last April 20, and now, award-winning fashion designer Michael Cinco has just released his menswear collection. If we didn't know that the womenswear-dominated Philippine Fashion Week takes place next week, we'd have good reason to worry that our fave designers are, perhaps, forgetting about us, the fairer sex. We are the ones more inclined to fashion, after all. Sometimes, our worlds even revolve around it. But alas, this article—or this collection—is not about us. So guys, listen up.
With a surprising flair for the slightly dishevelled but chic and somewhat subversive aesthetic of streetwear, Michael's menswear collection opens with dark separates reminiscent of the style of the Antwerp Six and Rick Owens—sheer shirting material slashed and draped around the body, falling in languid and delicious folds across the body. We're kind of envious that these pieces are more apt for daily dressing than his usual creations for women; they could readily function as seedlings for a Michael Cinco RTW Menswear collection.
But naturally, this outing wouldn't be Michael's without some intense drama. Michael gears his men up for Orientalia with his more dramatic ensembles: beautifully embroidered and embellished robes, rich silver brocade shirts, and sharply tailored, handworked coats. The accessories, too, are very Michael: glinting visors and armguards, and bejeweled neckpieces and harnesses.
We can't help but think that this lineup gives us a preview for his upcoming collection for Bench in Philippine Fashion Week. Can't wait to see!
