THE EXHIBIT LAUNCH OF SLIM: SALVACION LIM HIGGINS

By Isha Andaya
As the Slim's Fashion and Arts School celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2010, it is only fitting that there be a grand celebration to honor the legacy of its founder—Salvacion Lim Higgins, more famously known as Slim.

In line with this, Town & Country and Preview, together with Citibank and Nokia, hosted a gala cocktail reception last November 24, 2009, at the Museum of the Filipino People, National Museum of the Philippines to formally inaugurate the retrospective exhibit entitled “SLIM: Salvacion Lim Higgins, Philippine Haute Couture 1947-1990”. The night also highlighted the launch of a collectors' edition coffee-table book that honors Slim's tremendous contribution to Philippine Fashion as we know it.

The féte began with cocktails—delectable food by The Peninsula Manila and overflowing wines, courtesy Titania, for all. Opening remarks were made by Town & Country editor-in-chief Monique Villonco, Preview editor-in-chief Pauline Suaco-Juan, and Slim's daughter Sandy Higgins, after which the doors to the exhibit were opened.

The response to the display was powerful, as top designers, celebrities and fashion personalities were left speechless in sheer awe of Slim's magnificent body of work.

The exhibit will be open to the public from November 25, 2009, until March 2010.
