BLOGGER CHALLENGE: BUTTON-DOWN SHIRT

Lexi Gancayco
Blog: Lexi the Second
What made you try this trend?
I don't really consider it a trend because if you think about it, it's really just a button-down shirt, a classic piece. I always found it a little bit funny when polos were buttoned until the last button because it always looked like you were being choked but after seeing runway looks pull it off, I decided to give it a shot too.
How do you build your outfit around it?
I started off with the top then stuck to pairing it with high waist shorts and heels. I also decided to tuck it in to achieve a more polished look.
How do you style it to make the look your own?
I used this exactly this polo because I loved the animal print on the neckline. Also, instead of just regular shorts I added a pop of color by using red high waist shorts. I really love the combination of animal prints and the color red!
How do you balance your look to avoid making it look over-the-top?
I kept my accessories and shoes really simple. I planned to wear a turban with it but there might have been too much going on for my look.
How do you accessorize the button-down shirt trend?
A nice necklace under the collar will make a really big difference for this trend. Lots of cocktail rings will work too!
How would you wear it during the day, night, to the beach, to a party, to work,
etc.?
In the day: If it's too hot you can opt for a sheer button up. Just make sure you don't show too much skin! Pair it off with denim shorts or a full skirt.
At night: Any button up with a body con skirt or trousers will look great. If you have long hair, it would be nice to put it up on a ponytail or bun so your neck will be more seen, and it will look longer.
Lexi wore a top and shorts from The Second Shop paired with a Chanel belt and boots from Forever 21.
Show us how you wear it by posting a photo in our brand new My Style section.
