BLOGGER CHALLENGE: DENIM

Denim is one fabric everyone has in their wardrobe. It's been around so long, but it has always been reworked to fit into every season in fashion.  This week's Blogger Challenge puts the spotlight on four girls who knows how to play with different structures and shades of denim.

Click the next page to check out Mandy Garcia, Lana Tiotuyco, Kryz Uy and Camille Co as they share about their tips on how to wear their favorite denim pieces. Their tricks of the trade might just suit your personal style!

What made you want to try this trend?
From all the types of cloth and material, denim has got to be one of my favorites! It's a universal basic for both male and female, so trying this trend out was not a problem at all; it's really how you put the attire together that makes it different from everyone else!

How do you build your outfit around it?
Since practically everything goes with denim, its just matter of matching the denim to the occasion you're headed to!

How do you make the look your own?
Add your favorite accessories, your printed top, that funky turban, those killer heels and instantly you change the denim look into your own look.

How do you balance your outfit to avoid making it look over-the-top?
Since the denim trend has progressed to the denim-on-denim trend, it's best to always check out the color of denim! If you're playing with the denim-on-denim trend, check out a mirror and make sure they go well together!

How do you accessorize denim?
Used colored accessories! And in my opinion, gold looks better than silver on denim! It's a matter of adding color into the sort-of dullness of denim alone.

Can you give tips on how to wear this trend?
Confidence is the key, its cliché to say but people tend to forget that. I said it already that everyone wears denim, so in order to stand out you need to look like you "own" it, and that way people will see denim differently when you wear it.

How would you wear it during the day, night, to the beach, to a party, to work?
For the beach and during the day it's all about white and colors, while at night and for working occasions, black is the way to go since it makes denim a bit more dressed!

What made you want to try this trend?
I grew up listening to grunge and rock n’ roll music and the rough-around-the-edges look of ripped denim is something I’ve always been attracted to, like Erin Wasson and Kate Moss’ style.

How do you build your outfit around it?
For this particular outfit, I juxtaposed the tattered look of these denim pants with a silk top to create an interesting mix of textures.

How do you make the look your own?
I paired this outfit with cat-eye sunnies, an animal print bag and some heels to make it look a bit more polished and age-appropriate instead of grungy.

How do you balance your outfit to avoid making it look over-the-top?
I kept this outfit simple by wearing neutral colors and accessories in order to have only one focal point: the ripped jeans/denim.

How do you accessorize denim?
I find that denim is always more interesting when paired with a bright colored article of clothing or with an interesting print or texture such as leather or fur.  Another great look is when you keep everything clean and just add statement jewelry.

Can you give tips on how to wear this trend?
Since denim is a staple in most of our closets, the most important thing is to find the right shade and fit to denim.  Don’t be afraid to experiment and pair it with bright or jewel-toned colors or print or add texture like sequins, leather, silk, etc.  Since denim is a basic item, you can always dress it up or dress it down.

How would you wear it during the day, night, to the beach, to a party, to work?
For day, I’d like to wear a denim top with a delicate skirt, like a white pleated maxi skirt (still looking for one!) and with boots.  At night, I would also wear denim jeans with a leather or sequined jacket and heels.  For work, I’d pair jeans with a boyfriend blazer and pair it with loafers or heels.

What made you want to try this trend?
Style Bible’s Blogger Challenge!

How do you build your outfit around it?
I used a printed over-sized denim jacket and decided to work the print on print trend by pairing it with a pinstripe dress. I chose the same pan-tone so that it wouldn’t be too overwhelming.

How do you make the look your own?
No matter what the trend, I always style it in such a way that it’s romantic, feminine and quirky. For this specific look, I chose fun and flirty silhouettes and paired them with funky accessories.

How do you balance your outfit to avoid making it look over-the-top?
Stick to the same color palette or balance out skin exposure/detail.

How do you accessorize denim?
Since denim is a basic piece, I used funky accessories like a single semi-plume feather earring and chunky silver rings.

Can you give tips on how to wear this trend?
Experiment with shapes and silhouettes to keep the look current and interesting.

How would you wear it during the day, night, to the beach, to a party, to work?
Day: Denim on denim with chunky wedges and quirky accessories.
Night: Body con cotton denim dress with a sheer cropped top or blazer, hair in a bun, long dangling accessories and a thinner heel.
Beach: Faux denim bikini (for lounging) and a wide brim hat!

What made you want to try this trend?
Denim is the most familiar trend to most of us. It’s so easy to play around with it.

How do you build your outfit around it?
I consider the shape, color and over-all feel of the denim garment first and go from there.

How do you make the look your own?
I pair it with something unexpected.

How do you balance your outfit to avoid making it look over-the-top?
Because my vest is oversized and heavy, I went for a lighter top with an unexpected print. I refrained from wearing necklaces too because of the cut of my vest and top.

How do you accessorize denim?
With leather or silver accessories. Statement accessories are good too because denims usually come in plain designs.

Can you give tips on how to wear this trend?
Try denim on denim for a change. Mix 2 shades of denim together or mix a softer denim garment with a more structured piece.

How would you wear it during the day, night, to the beach, to a party, to work?
Day: A light denim dress, wedges and a few accessories.
Night: Wide denim pants with a sheer top and statement accessories.
Beach: Denim shorts with a cropped top and hat.
Party: Reworked denim mini dress with killer heals and statement accessories.
Work: Light denim button down under a blazer, paired with a pencil skirt.

Camille wears a Mango denim vest, a sheer floral top from Miss Selfridge, Topshop leather shorts paired with a Balenciaga bag, heels by Jeffrey Campbell and accessories from H&M, Love Eyecandy, What A Girl Wants, Mango and Marc by Marc Jacobs.
