BLOGGER CHALLENGE: FIFTIES

Judging from past seasons, fashion is currently obsessed with all things retro. From the boxy outerwear at Prada to the full circle skirts paired with cropped corsets at Dolce & Gabbana, this season is all about drawing inspiration from the silhouettes of past decades and breathing new life into them.

This week on Blogger Challenge, we ask these fashionable ladies to focus on key pieces from the fifties; namely the boxy jacket, cropped corset, and pleated skirt.

Read on to see how Aisa Ipac, Laureen Uy, Lissa Kahayon, Megs Decano, Mariel Wagas, Camille Co, Danika Navarro, and Kookie Buhain pulled off the look!

What made you want to try this trend?
I've always been fascinated by fashion in the past eras specifically the Fifties and Sixties. I think it was more fun dressing up then!

How do you build your outfit around it?
Nothing screams fifties like this uber feminine floral mid length full skirt. So I used it as my centerpiece and was thinking Stepford Wives while I picked out the other pieces.

How do you make the look your own?
By sticking to my casual preppy vintage style—printed skirt and a collared sweater top.

How do you balance your outfit to avoid making it look over-the-top?
I didn't use any accessories. Just like in the fifties, your clothes should do all the talking.

Can you give tips on how to wear this trend?
The fifties was all about soft femininity. So look for pieces that accentuate your curves or brings out the woman in you—strapless tops, round collar tops, dainty flared dresses, mid length skirts that hugs the waist and of course ballet flats.

How would you wear it during the day, at night, to a party, to work?
Day: you could wear cigarette pants with a sleeveless turtleneck top or a white button-down shirt with ballet flats.
Work: a pencil skirt with a printed blouse. Accessorize with a belt, statement necklace and wear with t-strap heels.
Night: a halter swing dress with pumps.
Party: you can wear a strapless polka dotted dress or lace dress (with a full skirt that falls just above the knee).
